Overview

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide developed by the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is based on a fragment of immunoglobulin G (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) combined with a tuftsin fragment. Unlike classical anxiolytics, Selank reduces anxiety without sedation, making it suitable for daytime cognitive enhancement. It primarily influences GABAergic and serotonergic systems while also exhibiting neuroprotective and immune-modulating properties. It is registered as a medicine in Russia.

Mechanism of Action

Selank primarily modulates GABAergic neurotransmission and appears to alter expression of genes involved in GABA-related signaling. Electrophysiological studies show it increases inhibitory synaptic activity in hippocampal tissue. It modulates serotonin levels and serotonin receptor sensitivity, contributing to its anxiolytic and mood-stabilizing effects. It also influences BDNF expression and may have neuroimmune modulatory properties, affecting cytokine profiles in the CNS.

Potential Benefits

  • Anxiety reduction without sedation or dependence
  • Stress resilience and emotional stability
  • Improved focus and cognitive clarity under stress
  • Memory retention enhancement in stress-related cognitive impairment
  • Immunomodulatory effects with potential neuroimmune benefits
  • Anti-inflammatory neuroprotective activity
  • No withdrawal effects or addiction potential

Dosage Protocols

The following reflects doses used in published research studies. This is not medical advice. Consult a qualified healthcare professional.

Typical Range250-750 mcg/day intranasally
Beginner250 mcg/day (125 mcg each nostril)
Intermediate500 mcg/day
Advanced750 mcg/day
Cycle Duration2-4 weeks
Cycle Off2-4 weeks; well-tolerated for longer courses in Russian clinical practice

Primarily used as intranasal spray. Anxiolytic effects are apparent within hours; cognitive benefits accumulate over days to weeks. Does not produce dependence or tolerance based on available research.

Routes of Administration

Intranasal High — direct CNS delivery via olfactory mucosa

Primary and preferred route. Typical dose 200–400 mcg, 2–3x daily. Provides anxiolytic effects within 15–30 minutes.

Subcutaneous Injection High — systemic and CNS effects

Alternative when nasal administration is impractical. Same dosing range.

Stacking Protocols

Popular research stacks involving Selank:

Anxiolytic Cognitive Stack

The classic Russian nootropic combination. Selank provides GABAergic anxiolysis and immune modulation while Semax enhances BDNF, dopamine, and cognitive function. Both administered intranasally.

Stress & Sleep Stack

Comprehensive stress and sleep support. Selank for daytime anxiety reduction, DSIP for delta sleep promotion and cortisol normalization, Semax for sustained cognitive clarity.
